London, May 2010
photodebut
- a case study (a book by photodebut about photodebut and all the fun we had!) photodebut was established in 2003 as a London collective for emerging photographers.
Seven years since its inception photodebut is undergoing major transformation because its members are no longer emerging but have busy and successful careers. Having started out in the London photographic industry many of photodebut's members have spread around the globe. To mark this point with a bang the collective have published a book titled: photodebut, A Case Study.
The publication combines the history of photodebut's experiences of working together as a collective and is aimed as a manual for other emerging photographers. The book also includes critical writings by collaborators including Helen James (The Photographer’s Gallery), Fiona Hayes (Condé Nast and Phillipes de Pury), Susan Bright (V&A), Sophie
Rickett (artist) and Mark Sinclair (Creative Review) alongside visuals from our latest photodebut project Chinese Whispers.
photodebut's members include photographers and artists, art buyers, picture editors, lecturers, writers and a professional plumber.... Combined clients, publications and exhibitions include, Dazed and Confused, Vogue, Vanity Fair, World of Interiors, Winkreative, Monocle, Creative Review, The V&A... The list goes on.
photodebut, A Case Study will be released on June 10th at HOST Gallery, 1-5 Honduras Street, London EC1Y 0TH. The collective is planning to launch the book with a very personal evening at this prestigious gallery in central London. The event will be introduced by various daily events during the week which will be set inside and outside of the gallery: exhibitions, gigantic camera obscuras, talks, presentations, books, tea& coffee and so much more!!
During the week are expecting about 250 visitors and for the book launch again about 250 guests from across the photographic and creative industries.

Exhibition continues 19th & 20th June 12 – 6pm

This exhibition will show the work of 11 recent graduates who specialised in Photography on the BA Media and Communications programme at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Within this international group, many overlapping fields of interest are to be found. Without losing each individual’s signature, one recurring thematic is the urban landscape and its inhabitants. By investigating its architecture, focusing on its minute details and forgotten elements, one becomes aware of the significance of these areas in connection to our personal experience of the urban environ. Other members of this group are interested in portraiture, showing their subjects either in their personal setting or within public spaces. Introduced to the portrayed persona through their environment, the viewer becomes aware of the way in which the other is revealed and how we read ones personality through their surroundings. Collectively, the diverse approaches to photographic practice on display capture a sense of contemporaneous looking at the world through the varied prevailing notions of gender, declination and the psycho-geographical landscape.
